Assault Rifle (AR) Changes:

  • Type 25: This classic AR is receiving a significant buff to its Bullet Spread Accuracy (BSA) and an increased upper arm damage multiplier (1.1x). This change makes its shot-to-kill potential much more consistent at longer ranges, positioning it as a potential powerhouse AR.
  • Maddox: The Maddox gets a damage multiplier increase for lower arms (1.1x) and a much-improved range profile. With the Echo Fire mod, this allows for a consistent two-burst kill potential up to 35 meters (assuming all shots land). However, its relatively high recoil and lack of a suppressor option remain challenging.
  • Groza: The Groza sees improvements to its damage multipliers, including a 1.5x headshot multiplier, giving it a 3-tap potential with two headshots. Additionally, its 4-tap range is extended with the VDV Reinforced barrel. On paper, it performs similarly to the XM4 and Type 19, but its horizontal recoil is a significant limiting factor.
  • CR-56 AMAX: The AMAX receives a minor BSA buff (spread reduced from 20(13) to 19(10)) and a slight damage increase at very long ranges. These changes are minimal, and its slow Time-to-Kill (TTK) keeps it firmly out of the meta. It will need more substantial buffs to become competitive.
  • Kilo 141: The penalties on ADS Time and mobility for its Extended Mags have been reduced. Furthermore, it’s getting a lower arm damage multiplier buff, granting it 3-tap potential without headshots (though this requires all shots to land on the lower torso). Its consistent but average TTK is still not enough to compete in the top-tier meta.
  • AS VAL: Using the 200mm Mid-Range barrel now provides a greater increase in range and bullet velocity. The Quick Response barrel improves damage multipliers but doesn’t consistently reduce the shots-to-kill. Its frustrating recoil keeps it in a mediocre spot.

Light Machine Gun (LMG) Changes:

  • MG82: This LMG is getting a better range profile and recoil improvements. However, with a slower TTK compared to other top LMGs, it will likely remain a lower-tier option.

Submachine Gun (SMG) Changes:

  • Chicom: The Chicom receives a one-point damage buff in its second damage range, allowing it to secure a one-burst kill in that range. This gives it the longest one-burst potential among all burst SMGs, making it a powerful choice if you can land your shots accurately.
  • RUS-79U: A damage increase in its second range now allows for a consistent 4-tap kill. This fixes its main drawback of a short 4-tap range and turns it into a flexible, off-meta SMG.
  • MAC-10: This SMG gets a range buff and a stomach damage multiplier, enabling a 5-tap kill in its second damage range. This is a huge improvement for its aggressive mobility and TTK, though the VMP still reigns supreme.

Sniper Rifle Changes:

  • Outlaw: An increased lower arm damage multiplier makes it a more consistent one-tap kill to the upper torso. However, the 3-Line Rifle, with a similar ADS speed and a better hitbox, remains the stronger choice.
  • Locus: The Locus is receiving a reduction in Hit Flinch and a lower fire rate penalty from the Stopping Power Reload attachment. These are welcome changes, but they still leave the Locus weaker than the Tundra and the 3-Line Rifle.

The USS 9 Time Has Come: Is This Gun Dead?

The moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! The USS 9 has finally been nerfed. This is one of the most critical CoDM Season 8 balance changes that will directly impact the meta.

  • Bullet Velocity Reduction: A 60 m/s reduction in bullet velocity makes it less consistent at longer ranges.
  • The Big No Stock Nerf: The most significant change is that the No Stock attachment no longer increases movement speed. This means you can no longer offset the mobility penalty of the Carbine Pro barrel, and your sprint speed will be even slower than some ARs.

Now you must choose: either play with the Carbine Pro and sacrifice SMG-level mobility, or use the First Responder barrel and deal with less range and bullet velocity. Although the UZZI 9mm will still be a competitive gun, this nerf severely limits its undeniable power.

Shotgun Changes:

  • Striker: The Striker will now fire two additional pellets per shot. This greatly increases the consistency of its 1 or 2-shot kills within its primary range, giving it the potential to become a powerful weapon for close-quarters combat and objective play.

Battle Royale (BR) Exclusive Changes:

  • Crossbow: Base damage is increased to 150 up to 40 meters. However, since it still cannot one-shot-kill an opponent without a headshot, it remains a weak sniper option in BR.
  • HS2126: The damage in its second range is being nerfed, reducing its one-burst kill consistency. This change might make the Striker the best automatic shotgun in Battle Royale.

Overall Conclusion

The CoDM Season 8 balance changes are a refreshing and intelligent set of updates. The major nerf to the L-CAR 9 opens the door for other guns to shine, while exciting buffs to the Chicom, RUS-79U, and Maddox make them powerful and viable options. Guns like the AMAX and Kilo 141 still need more love to be competitive, but the overall direction of the update is positive and exciting.
