IIt’s been just a month since the launch of FBC: Firebreak, and developer Remedy Entertainment is already laying out big plans to attract more players before the game’s first major update in September. With player counts on Steam dropping from an initial peak of 1,992 concurrent users to an average of less than 100, it’s clear that the game needs some improvements to retain its audience.

The Main Issue: The First Hour of Gameplay
In a recent blog post, Remedy acknowledged that one of the core issues is the game’s opening hour—a critical period when most players decide whether to continue playing or quit. Remedy explained:
„Many players are leaving within the first hour. That’s because the first hour can be frustrating; you feel powerless and confused about what to do next. This is something we need to address.“
Revamping the Early Game Experience
To address this, the studio plans to overhaul the early game experience. Changes include a new introductory video, an improved tutorial, and better pop-up guidance to help players understand where they are, who they are, and what their goals are as Firebreak members.

Key Gameplay Changes in the Upcoming Update
Remedy is also working on striking a better balance between traditional first-person gameplay and the unique Crisis Kit tools, giving players more control over their progression. Notable planned additions include:
- Three new heavy weapons
- Removal of all „Generic“ upgrades from gear, replaced by a new mod system for weapon customization
- Job system improvements and more engaging objectives to keep players motivated

But the update doesn’t stop there. Remedy has teased even more content, such as:
- A new handcrafted stage
- Three new areas to explore
- A new status effect
- Two new enemy types
