The discount was ghosted for most DLC packs across the entire Game Pass library. And the worst part? Microsoft didn&#8217;t say a word about it when they announced the massive price hike for Ultimate. Shady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-microsoft-s-pr-spin-it-s-all-about-points\">Microsoft&#8217;s PR Spin: It&#8217;s All About Points<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement to IGN, Microsoft finally fessed up, confirming the removal of the Xbox Game Pass discount is a platform-wide nerf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is not specific to any one game and reflects all games and DLC purchases,&#8221; the statement says. &#8220;Instead of a discount on the purchases, Ultimate and Premium subscribers will earn 10% and 5% \u2014 respectively \u2014 in points when purchasing select games and add-ons from the Game Pass library.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The play here is obvious: they want to keep your cash locked in their ecosystem. By giving you points instead of a discount, they make you spend the full price, then you have to use those points on their stuff, like gift cards. It keeps your money from ever leaving the Xbox world. It all started with the rage-inducing news that Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is jumping from $19.99 to $29.99 a month. That&#8217;s an extra $120 a year out of your pocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To make you feel better about it, Microsoft is throwing in some extra loot:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More Day-One Drops:<\/strong> They&#8217;re boosting the number of day-one releases to 75 per year.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New Perks:<\/strong> For the first time, you get Fortnite Crew ($11.99\/month value) and Ubisoft+ Classics ($7.99\/month value) bundled in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cloud Gaming Buff:<\/strong> Xbox Cloud Gaming is finally out of beta, and Ultimate players get first dibs with better quality and less lag.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here&#8217;s the catch. The new Premium tier (what used to be Standard) gets new Xbox games a year late, and that excludes Call of Duty. So if you want to play the new CoD on release, you&#8217;re basically forced to pay for the super-expensive Ultimate tier. That\u2019s $360 a year, and now you don&#8217;t even get 10% off your COD Points.
